The policy on Gender Equality and Women Advancement, known as GEWA, is both necessary and justified. This is because SADC member states have not implemented measures to achieve gender equality and the mainstreaming of gender. This situation prevails despite the fact that SADC states are signatories to international (United Nations), regional (Africawide) and sub-regional (SADC) gender frameworks. The policy seeks to translate commitments at political level and SADC-PF level into concrete practical interventions.
