Ms. Boemo Sekgoma: "Food is not a private matter. It is a political matter. A human right. A legal obligation. A parliamentary concern."

Secretary‑General Sekgoma opened the Inaugural Meeting of the SADC Parliamentary Alliance on Agrifood Systems, Food Security and Nutrition on 22 July 2025 in Johannesburg. She stressed that global food insecurity from drought-stricken regions to conflict zones—demands robust parliamentary oversight, including legislation on subsidies, tariffs, agro-business support, and safe pest control. The remarks were made in the context of the Alliance launched during the 56th Plenary in December 2024, supported by FAO and aligned with regional frameworks
