H.E Dr. Geingob was somebody who relentlessly stood his ground for the upholding of democratic principles. He was a refined politician, an admirable leader and the engineer of modern Namibia. H.E Dr.Geingob was a steadfast believer in parliamentary democracy and a supporter of inter-parliamentary cooperation, epitomized by the hosting of the SADC Parliamentary Forum in Windhoek. As the elected President of the Republic of Namibia, he had won the hearts of citizens and foreigners alike through progressive policies which positioned Namibia as a vibrant economic hub for the region. Recently, His Excellency supported the SADC-PF in its agenda to transform to a regional Parliament which illustrated his commitment to consolidating democracy, upholding human rights and empowering parliaments to deliver for the benefit of citizens.
I am certain I can speak for all our Forum members in expressing profound sadness at the passing of H.E Dr.Geingob and in extending our heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, relatives and to the Namibian nation as a whole. I also express our solidarity with our learned Colleague Hon Prof. Peter Hitjitevi Katjavivi, Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia and Host Speaker to the SADC-PF for the untimely loss of his Head of State. We wish him courage in facing this sad loss of a fellow leader.
Today, Africa has lost one of its selfless sons who has departed after having fulfilled a providential mission by elevating his country to greatness. May his soul rest in eternal peace. We further offer support to H.E Dr Nangolo Mbumba, who has since been sworn in as President, to effect a peaceful and effective transition.
