REPORT OF THE SADC PF STANDING COMMITTEE ON GENDER EQUALITY, WOMEN'S ADVANCEMENT AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT (GEWAYD) TO THE SADC PF 45 th PLENARY ASSEMBLY SESSION HELD IN WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA

Mr. President, I beg to move that this Plenary Assembly do adopt the Report of the Standing Committee on Gender Equality, Women's Advancement and Youth Development to the 45th Plenary Assembly Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, laid on the table of the House on 22 July 2019. 

1.0 PREAMBLE AND BACKGROUND

The Standing Committee on Gender Equality, Women Advancement and Youth Development guided by its mandate in terms of Rule 42(5) of the Rules of Procedure, convened on Thursday the 23rd May, 2019, at Premier Hotel O. R. Tambo International Airport, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

It is widely accepted that women’s empowerment and gender equality is one of the major challenges facing the SADC region and the world in the 21st century.
