The Secretariat of the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF) actively participated in several strategic engagements during January 2026 aimed at strengthening parliamentary cooperation, advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and reinforcing Africa’s voice in global parliamentary diplomacy.

On 19 January 2026, the Secretariat participated in the African Geopolitical Group Strategy Meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held virtually. The meeting reviewed progress on the IPU Strategic Plan and coordinated Africa’s positions within the organisation.

Discussions focused on strengthening representation of African parliaments in IPU structures, identifying candidates for vacancies on IPU committees, and aligning positions on emerging global issues.

Participants also examined proposals for emergency items for upcoming IPU Assemblies, including matters related to global conflicts and the impacts of climate change. The leadership of the African Geopolitical Group reiterated the importance of continental unity in promoting Africa’s priorities in governance, peace and security, and sustainable development.
