Engagement with the African Centre for Strategic Studies

SG and her delegation meeting with the African Center for Strategic Studies

During the meeting with the African Center for Strategic Studies, led by Dr. Catherine Kelly who is the Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Justice and Rule of Law, a number of possible strategic joint initiatives were identified. These include the creation of labs to strengthen the capacity of parliamentary staff and women parliamentarians, as well as the establishment of an academy for young people to build their capacity for leadership roles. The capacity building initiatives will tap from existing research and training capacities from American universities through the coordination of the Center.

The Center, which is already collaborating with the Forum on strengthening parliamentary oversight on the security sector, pledged to avail existing resources to kickstart the youth academy, including training materials on security sector governance, counterterrorism covering maritime security and transnational organised crimes. The Possibility of availing post-doctoral students to provide research was also mentioned.
