Ms Boemo M. Sekgoma, Secretary General-SADC-PF

Ms Boemo Mmandu Sekgoma holds a Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health, from the Lesley University, Boston, Post Graduate Diploma in Community Counselling, from the University of Botswana, Gaborone, Botswana, a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, from the University of Botswana, and a Certificate in Promoting and Managing HIV and AIDS Prevention programs from the University of Exeter, England,

She is currently the Secretary General of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, an apex inter-parliamentary organisation established within the institutional framework of the SADC, vested with an enormous responsibility towards the region. Whilst it is grounded on its durable partnership with 15 national Parliaments within Southern Africa, the Forum is committed to spearheading social change through inter-parliamentary collaboration, particularly in areas which pose the most pernicious challenges and require corrective action through Parliaments.

Armed with staunch experience in advocating for policy initiatives at parliamentary level, Ms Sekgoma was selected to become the first-ever woman Secretary General of the SADC-PF in August 2019. She now works tirelessly to advance the Strategic Objectives of the Forum which includes promoting inter-parliamentary cooperation, diplomacy and dialogue on issues of regional interest in view of advancing democratisation and socio-economic development for SADC Member States.

The career advancement of Ms Sekgoma is a brilliant illustration that opportunities can unfold in Southern Africa for meritorious and hard-working women.
